Kawasaki motorcycles are manufactured by the Motorcycle and Engine division of Kawasaki Heavy Industries at plants in Japan, USA, Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand. Kawasaki emerged from the ashes of the Second World War to become one of the biggest players from Japan. In the late ‘60s and early ‘70s Kawasaki built a reputation for some of the most powerful engines on two wheels, producing legendary sport bikes like the Ninja series and a line of championship winning off road motorbikes.
Originally, Kawasaki Aircraft initially manufactured motorcycles under the Meguro Works name, having bought out an ailing motorcycle manufacturer called Meguro Manufacturing Co. Ltd with whom they have been in partnership earlier, but later formed Kawasaki Motor Sales. Some motorcycles display an emblem with ‘Kawasaki Aircraft’ on the fuel tank. During 1962, Kawasaki engineers were engaged in the development of a four stroke engine for small cars which ended in 1962 with some of the engineers transferred to the Meguro Works to work on the Meguro K1 and the SG, a single cylinder 250 cc OHV. In 1963, Kawasaki and Meguro merged to form Kawasaki Motorcycle Co Ltd. The Kawasaki H1 Mach in 1968, along with several enduro-styled motorcycles to complete Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda, increased sales of Kawasaki units. In 2009, Kawasaki introduced the Vulcan 1700 Voyager (VN1700 Voyager in Europe), which was the first Japanese full dress V Twin Tourer. It offers a large front cowling windscreen as well as leg shields to provide superior wind and weather protection. It also includes top mounted trunk, hard panniers and dual glove boxes to ensure ample storage. As well as this, this bike includes a new1700 cm3 engine mounted in a light-handling chassis all wrapped in a sculpted bodywork reminiscent of ‘60s muscle cars.
